Acer Aspire One Happy Netbook

Acer is one company which has been long since interested in the production of netbooks. Acer’s netbooks are one of the top in the line and these netbooks are known for being not-so-special but indeed unique. One of the most interesting inventions is this little box, the Acer Aspire One Happy. “Happy” as the name goes, is intended to keep the users happy while it is at use. The biggest, promising and at once noticeable feature of this netbook is the different colours that it comes with. This netbook is cute, little and attractive. Its features are quite similar to the Acer one D255 with only few differences. There are some interesting features in this netbook that might grab the attention of some people and make them crave for the product. For instance, it supports the Android OS too. To see what this colorful little box has, check out our full review on Acer Aspire One Happy.

Acer Aspire One Happy Netbook

Design:

The Acer Aspire One Happy 10.1 inch netbook comes neatly packed in a small box along with the charger, black sleeve and cloth. Acer has always been wise enough to pack the netbook with the sleeve and a cloth to wipe the netbook. They can be very useful because, since the netbook is quite glossy, the sleeve and the cloth play a very important role and it can be irritating when we have to buy them separately. Upon unboxing, you will find yourself staring at a beautiful and tiny netbook. Now the colour depends on your choice and as acer puts it, you can choose your “color of joy”. The Acer Aspire One Happy netbook is available in four different ranges of choices, namely, Candy Pink, Lime Green, Lavender Purple and Hawaii blue. The netbook is coloured on the outer cover and the palm rest area while the rest of the area are white in colour with a black display. The entire netbook is glossy and this means that the screen is very sensitive to light. The viewing angles are also average only. The happy in a nutshell, has features that are similar to its predecessor D255 with the only difference being the choice of colours.

The Happy netbook is a 10.1″ netbook with a native resolution of 1024 x 600p. This resolution is good enough for a 10.1 inch netbook and the video quality would be decently good in this resolution. Since the machine is a small one, it is quite thin and comparatively of less weight. The netbook measures a length of 259 mm, while it has a depth and height of 24 and 185 mm. The display is of LED backlit widescreen type. Most of the netbooks these days come with the backlit widescreen type. Thus the introduction of these four colours to this netbook is a great pleasure because, it makes the netbook look vibrant, soft, smooth, appealing and at the same time attractive.

Keyboard:

If you found yourself staring at something in the netbook, it would be the keyboard. The keyboard of this machine is really pretty and is of isolated type. The keys are neatly spaced out within the small area and it is nearly full sized. The keyboard does not have an integrated numeric keypad. So the users will have to use the number keys to type the numbers. All the other keys are well spaced and the users would not find it arduous to type. The entire keyboard is of beautiful white while the rest of the area is coloured. There are four LEDs on the left corner of the netbook for indicating power, caps lock, battery. On the top left corner on the keyboard is the power button.

Touch Pad:

The touchpad of this Aspire One Happy netbook is quite small and compact. The touchpad encompasses only one single button and it can be used for the left and right mouse options. The track pad is coloured but can be easily separated from the rest of the area because the feel is different. Moreover, the touchpad is multi-touch enabled. It supports all the multi-touch gestures like the swiping and pinching. These gestures play a super important role in the photo session.

Microphone, Camera and Speaker:

The Acer crystal eye web camera is positioned on the top bezel of the screen while the speakers are integrated and are of stereo type. The Camera as the name itself indicates, crystal eye, the camera produces ultimate picture quality that can be expected out of a netbook. With the microphone, camera and speakers, the users can easily chat online with anyone they wish to.

Acer Aspire One Happy Colours

Processor, Memory and OS:

The Acer aspire one happy netbook computer uses the Intel Core N450 or the Dual Core N550 processor. The RAM memory is 1GB while it can be extended up to 2GB of DDR3 type. Moreover, the hard disk capacity is about 250GB. The OS used here is the Windows 7 starter but then the netbook gives us another choice, Android. The users can use the operating system of their wish. Android is very well known for its mobile software and it is highly under demand because the OS is user friendly and facilitates easy work. But then the windows 7 does a better work than the Android. Most of the users switch over to the Windows 7 operating system after using the Android for a while. This is because of the lack of perfection that the Windows 7 could provide its users. This process of changing the OS is simple and intuitive too.

Ports:

The netbook has a good number of ports. Though the netbook is small, not many compromises have been made. On the left are present, the power plug, VGA and two USB 2.0 ports. On the right are 4-in-1 card reader, microphone and headphone jack, USB 2.0 port, Kensington port and the RJ45 Ethernet port. The main ports that are absent are optical drive, HDMI port and express card slot. But then most of the netbooks do not support these ports. So it is not a big deal truly. As for a netbook of its price, there are no complaints.

Connectivity:

It is a basic criterion that the netbooks these days support both wired and wireless connection. Today, even life without coffee might be possible, but then, life without internet has become something incredible. It has got mixed with our daily life and is deep routed. To enable the users to enjoy this internet all the time, the happy netbook comes packed with both wired and wireless connection. All that the users have to do is to hook up their plug into the RJ45 LAN port for ethernet connection. For wireless connection there is the 802.11 bgn network support. So internet will be at your service anytime and anywhere you are in need of it.

Heat and Noise:

One of the biggest disadvantages of the netbook is the hotness. Acer has indeed taken steps to reduce this hotness by providing heat sinks which remove the When the device is put to hard works, beyond what it can tolerate the ultimate result is the netbook getting heated. The fan noise is not much audible though.

Battery:

The Acer Aspire One Happy netbook comes with a 6 cell Li-ion 4400 mAh battery which means that this piece should help the machine survive for nearly 8 hours. This battery life is decent and good enough for a netbook at this price. Battery is one of the plus points for the netbook because these days we find netbooks which can do a lot of works, but then, when it comes to battery life, they give a very poor performance, except very few netbooks, and this acer aspire netbook is also one among the few. The battery is one of its best features and acer receives a good round of applause for this. But keep in mind, as you do multitasking or play games, there is a corresponding decrease in the battery life, a decrease that is directly proportional to the increase in the works loaded upon it. But then, in general the netbook has a super battery.

Acer Aspire One Happy 10.1 inch Netbook

Performance:

The Acer aspire gives a good performance. The battery life is good and audio and video quality is good. The netbook’s design and colours are good. The netbook gives a good performance indeed. It is difficult to upgrade the memory because it is fixed and can not be easily opened.

Warranty:

The warranty time period for the Acer aspire One Happy is one year.

Verdict:

For all those out there that would prefer a netbook looking exactly like a cute little toy, you would immediately pick this one up. Infact, children would adore it because it has a look that is very cute, innocent and appealing. But in real, the netbook is not just a play item. It can do so much. The netbook gives a good performance despite its childish looks. It has a great battery life and good features too. If you are someone who never gets tired in putting your netbook to hard works, then you might grumble. For the other light users who use the machine only to surf the net and other easy jobs, this netbook would really make them happy. It is a cute little kit that is not really expensive. This aspire one happy will make you “Happy” depending on how you use it. It is now your wish to buy this happy netbook or move on to the next to find a netbook that would make you the happiest.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook Review

Dell Inc., one of the biggest computer manufacturers located in Texas, United States of America, is one of the best manufacturers of the laptops, notebooks and netbooks. The Inspiron Mini is one such netbook produced by Dell and it comes in three series, the Mini 9, Mini 10 and the Mini 12. The Mini 9 and 12 series were brought into the market some time back and most recently the Inspiron mini 10 stepped on to face its rivals.

As the name itself indicates, one of the major differences between the three series is the size. This particular netbook, the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook takes its place as an average sized netbook with a screen size of 10.1 inches and the greatest icing to this model is that the resolution of the screen can be extended from the trivial 1024 x 600p to an astounding 1366 x 768p. This means that the netbook needless to say, exhibits excellent and perfect video performance. The company boasts that the product has been designed to be used for “today as well as tomorrow”. So let us first study what it offers today and then see what role it would have tomorrow. The detailed description of this Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is given below.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook

Design:

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is a 10.1 inch netbook which sports an exquisite appearance once the package is opened. The netbook basically comes in black colour, but more money can give you more colour choices, that is, at few extra pounds, the users can make their choice from red, green, pink, blue or white coloured netbook. Though there are these different colours, black is generally the most preferred colour. The red one looks good too. The disadvantage with these green, pink or any coloured netbooks when compared to the black or white version is that these colours are way too bright and might not be pleasing for the eyes. If you are some one who does not mind spending few more pounds, then you are at the side of buying the netbook designed by the artist Triston Eaton, though very less number of people are interested in spending so much for a netbook. The netbook has a neat design exhibited on a good layout. For instance if the outer covering of the netbook is red in colour, the inner layer is white in colour while the outer base covering is white in colour and the keyboard and touchpad area are black. For a black netbook the palm rest area and the touchpad area are grey in colour while the screen and the keyboard are black in colour.

The Dell Mini 10 netbook has a width of 268 mm, depth of 197 mm and height ranging from 25.5 mm to 32.8 mm. The netbook weighs only 1.2 Kg when it works on a 3 cell battery while it extends to 1.33 Kg when it runs on 6 cell battery. This weight is average and thus makes the netbook easily portable. Carrying the netbook all along their place of travel will no longer be burdensome. The netbook is not at all heavy, is thinner (though not ultra portable or ultrathin) and has an external look which appeals to most of the users.

Display:

If the netbook gets an “outstanding” award, it would be because of the screen. The 10.1 inch screen gives an excellent performance. It not only supports the normal 1024 x 600p resolution but then, as said earlier, the resolution extends to an optional 1366 x 768p. The screen is of glossy type. Though glossiness adds to the exquisiteness of the netbook, it is an undeniable fact that the netbook faces problems due to glare of the sunlight. All frequent movie watchers can be delighted because this netbook is best suited for this purpose. Not only movies, any video plays the best in this Dell Inspiron Mini 10. By best, what we mean is the result when compared to other netbooks of similar price range. Video output is one big plus point for this netbook. The screen is of WSVGA TrueLife type with the best possible aspect ratio of 16:9. So comparatively excellent video quality is the notable part of this 10.1” netbook.

Keyboard:

The keyboard is another big asset for the Inspiron Mini 10. The keys are perfectly and neatly aligned in such a way that it does not cause trouble to the users in any way. The keyboard includes the integrated numeric keypad and the keys are so aligned in such a way that even novice users will not have big trouble while typing. It is not a full sized keyboard, but in turn, is a 92% full sized keyboard and all the keys are of suitable size except for the page up, down, arrow keys and the like. If they had been a little larger providing a comfortable typing as the Shift and Control keys, then it would have been even better.

Touchpad:

Touchpad is one area where Dell lacked to prove its excellence. The touchpad of the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is unlike any touchpad because it does not have the two or single button system, but instead, the left bottom area bends when pressed and thus performs the operations of the left mouse button and similarly the right bottom bends for the right mouse options. This touchpad has the maximum negative comments from the users as very few users find this touchpad comfortable. The Inspiron Mini 9 and 12 fair better than this 10 in this particular aspect.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Colours

Microphone, Camera and Speakers:

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 10.1-inch Netbook sports a good microphone, better camera and speakers. The camera is present on the top bezel of the screen and has a resolution of about 0.3 MP. With this camera video conferencing or chatting with friends and relatives will be great fun. Moreover, the speakers are integrated and the sound that comes is clearly audible without much noise. With the microphone, camera and speakers, the netbooks easily bridge the physical gap between two people and thus serves the purpose.

Ports:

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is a netbook. Keeping that in mind, if we look at the ports it is indeed satisfying. At a reasonable price, the netbook offers most of what is necessary. Beginning from the right side of the netbook, the users can find the Ethernet port for getting connected to the internet in the wired mode, two USB 2.0 ports, a HDMI port, Microphone and headphone jack. It is a great news that the netbook includes the HDMI port while there are few netbooks which do not support one. But then one point that has to be mentioned is that the netbook could have been provided with a VGA port instead of HDMI, because with the HDMI the users can play the contents of the netbook on the HD TVs only. If there was a VGA port instead, the users can hook up any video or photos on any external monitor. This is just a small thing that Dell missed to set right, still, not a big deal.

On the left hand side, the Kensington port, the power port, another USB port and a 3-in-1 memory card reader find their positions. The presence of card reader makes it obvious that the users can easily transfer the contents on the cards, for example, the photos on the cards of the digital camera onto this netbook and they can be viewed. This Mini 10 netbook supports 3 cards, the SD/SDHC, MMC, MS/MS Pro. There are 3 USB ports in total which is splendid, especially because the USB ports are present on both sides of the netbook. The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 has no inbuilt optical drive. But if the user desires to have one, then it can be bought externally, though at extra cost. With the kensington port the users can easily lock the contents of their netbook and thereby protecting the data from being lost.

Connectivity:

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 10.1 inch netbook offers both wired and wireless connection to the internet. Nowadays, for most of the people, life has become impossible without the help of the internet (particularly the google!!) Wired connection can be made possible by connecting via the RJ45 Ethernet. The Dell Inspiron Mini provides the wireless connection as an option that is, it does not come along with the netbook, but the users can indeed buy the dongle at an extra cost and make use of it if they so desire and the bluetooth is also optional. The lack of inbuilt wireless and bluetooth connectivity is upsetting, but of course, the solution is simple and therefore no big issues.

Heat:

The netbook remains cool when all that the users do is light surfing, normal works using simple applications. The trouble starts when the netbook is used for intense purposes like gaming, long time downloading, etc., the netbook starts emitting higher quantity of heat that becomes almost intolerable. The heat can obviously be felt by the user and therefore it is highly impossible for the lap to bear the heat after a round of tough jobs. This is indeed an area which is little disappointing. For those who are not much into gaming and use the netbook only for light purposes, then there is no need to stop or tarry. The netbook will be cool for you.

Memory and Processor:

Compromises can be made on any area but not on the memory and processor because these two play a very important role in hyping up the value of the product. Most of the companies try to give the best processor and maximum memory possible. The processor employed here is the Intel Atom N455 533MHz FSB with a speed of 1.6GHz. This processor performs well. This netbook has a 1GB DDR3 RAM which is nominal for a netbook of this price range and is well sufficient. The hard drive memory that comes with the package is 160GB. But this can be extended to a good 250GB if the user wishes to. Overall, these specifications are good, though not amazing.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 10.1-inch Netbook

Battery:

The Mini 10 netbook comes with Li-ion battery and the users have two options. They can either choose the 3 cell 24WHr or the 6 cell WHrbattery. Choosing the number of cells purely depends on the user’s requirements and interests. Though it is true that the addition of 3 cells, increases the battery life tremendously, for some the protrusion might make the whole experience worse. With the 6 cell battery the users can sustain without charging their battery for approximately 7 hours and few extra minutes provided the work done on the netbook is not highly challenging.

Performance:

The netbook comes with the Windows 7 Starter pre-installed and this means that it has the best user interface. The chipset and the graphics are Intel NM10; Integrated Intel®  NM10 Express and they have sported a justifiable job too. Most of the netbooks move back a step when it comes to high level jobs like gaming or other balancing multi-tasks and so does this Dell Inspiron Mini 10. Light users would award an “outstanding” ribbon for its performance. Office users would give this netbook a “Good” ribbon while the netbook freaks would give it an “average” ribbon.

Warranty:

The warranty for this product is the normal 1 year time period. This time would be completely helpful for majority of the users to service their Dell laptop. The services are inclusive of the parts and labour.

Verdict:

The competition and demand of the netbooks has always been showing an increasing graph ever since it was released into the market and therefore each and every feature makes a big difference in deciding its position in the market. This Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is a netbook at cheaper price with good number of features. There is nothing to boast when its features are considered since there is nothing extraordinary but this netbook indeed receives a good round of applause in the picture quality and video performance. So given the plus and minus, it is now your choice, to either own this netbook or move on to the next in the line.

Acer Aspire One 532 Netbook Review

Acer Aspire one 532 netbook is a 10.1″ PC with pretty design and good features. Acer is an international organization involved in the production of the electronic goods for a long time and has a good hands-on experience in the production of the netbooks particularly. Netbooks are always handy and portable and these are the main reasons for its fame. The netbooks are in no way equal to the larger notebooks or laptops because the compromise in its size has been reflected in the features too. This particular one, the aspire one 532 comes in three colours, Sapphire Blue, Pearl Silver and Ruby red, though we would say that Pearl silver bears a more professional and appealing look than the other two dark-coloured netbooks and the one under study here is the silver model. The features of this netbook are similar in many ways to the Aspire One D250 with little changes here and there. This netbook is less expensive and has almost all the features that any student or lights users might essentially need. But for a user with high expectations, will this netbook suffice? Check this out.

Acer Aspire One 532 Netbook

Design:

The Acer aspire 532h is a cute little netbook with great design. The outer covering is pearl silver in colour with dots over the entire top surface which looks amazing. The inner part of the netbook is white in colour and this combo works out well. The netbook sports a very attractive look and this look actually increases the market demand. The other two models said earlier, the red and the blue ones are a little darker and users who have a craze for highly bright coloured netbooks usually go in for them. This netbook is petite with a screen size of 10.1 inches. The smaller screen size optimizes the space occupied and in turn reduces the weight. For a 3 cell battery, the weight of the machine is about 1.1 Kg while the choice of a 6 cell battery slightly hypes up the weight to 1.25 Kg, not a big difference really, but definitely noticeable. The netbook has a width of 258.5 mm and is 185 mm deep while the height of the entire netbook is merely 25.2 mm. Given these dimensions, it must be obviously understood that the netbook, though not feather-light, is definitely not a burden for the carrying hands. The resolution of this 10 inch netbook is 1024 x 600p, normal for this size netbook but not enough for users who prefer higher resolution. The display is a WSVGA type LED screen with TFT coating. The viewing angles are average only. If the netbook is bent very farther, the screen gets dark making it difficult to view the contents. When the netbook is viewed from the side too, it gets darker. At normal view however, the picture quality is crystal clear at 360 and 720p. However, at 1080p the quality is not quite satisfactory. The silver netbook is actually matte type while the other two are glossy type. This is a great news because the glossiness means that the netbook bears a richness but then to the chagrin, the probability of finger imprints disturbing the neatness of the netbook is really high.

Keyboard:

Chiclet or the island style keyboard always wears a prettiness which outlives the normal keyboard and this is one of the many reasons why most of the netbooks and notebooks these days prefer this chiclet style. So this particular one, the Acer 532 also has acquired these isolated keys. The keys are tiny because of the direct impact of the 10.1” screen, but luckily, the keyboard is full sized or edge-to-edge occupying the entire space and therefore the size of the keys are quite comfortable to type on. There are the usual function keys and the control, alt, shift, delete and the like with an integrated numeric keypad. The edges of each key are rounded giving it an extra perfect look. The controls for the volume and brightness are available on the right base of the keyboard. Also, the power button is present on the extreme left end on top of the netbook. The keyboard is pretty and also gives a good show.

Acer Aspire One Colours

Touch Pad:

The touchpad of this Aspire One 532 handy netbook is quite large (considering the netbook size of course) and is present below the keyboard. It is quite glossy and the colours of the click button in the touchpad of the silver, red and blue models are chrome, red and blue respectively. The left and right mouse buttons are replaced by a single chrome button on the base which is slightly devastating. This is because to make the left click option, the user has to click little away from the centre of the button to get the click in one attempt. If you chose to click on the extreme left end of the button, then you will have to click many times to get the right hit. This is the disappointing part of the netbook. The support for multi-touch gestures is a warm and welcome news. However, what can be expected out of the touchpad of a 10.1” screen? The comfort might not be attained while performing the pinching or rotating or swiping action. For light users the touchpad would do fine, but then for the others, an external mouse is highly commendable.

LED:

The Aspire 532 netbook has 6 LEDs on the lower extreme left side of the glossy wrist area. LEDs always come in handy since they help the lazy users from opening the netbook every time to check the status. These LEDs are used for indicating various purposes like power, Caps Lock, an indicator for wireless usage, for recovery and the like.

Camera, Microphone and Speaker:

The Aspire One 532h-2Dr netbook is inbuilt with a 0.3MP web camera that bridges the distance between the user and the other person with whom communication could be made visually. Video chatting is further enhanced by the presence of the microphone just beside the camera. The stereo speakers are present at the bottom of the keyboard and exhibit good audio clarity and loudness too.

Processor and Memory:

Intel has found refuge in many netbooks these days and so has it got routed into the 532 model. The Intel Atom N450 processor has been used here. An important point to note here is that this processor is a novice entry for Acer and it actually controls both memory as well as graphics. The prime advantage of this function is that it consumes less amount of power and also implies the longevity of the battery life. However, the speed is not quite laudable. But considering the price, there should practically be no complaints though. The disappointing fact is that it sports only 1GB of RAM. This is not quite sufficient and it is highly recommended that Acer provides an upgrade to higher quantity as it is vital for increasing the processor speed. The hard drive capacity has a choice between 160GB and 250GB.

Ports:

Ports basically decide the value of the product and as trivial as any netbook, this one has its ports distributed on both the left and right sides of the netbook, making it less crowded and also easing the use of many ports simultaneously. On the right side are present the ports for, LAN, kensington lock, USB 2.0 port, microphone jack, headphone jack and an SD card slot. The left side sports the power adaptor, VGA and two more USB 2.0 ports. The netbook in total has 3 USB ports which is splendid, especially with one USB port placed separately on the right side. We can heave a sigh of relief as the contents are secure with the presence of a kensington lock. With the VGA port, the users can easily connect to an external monitor. The SD Card slot is highly advantageous because it not only reads SD cards but also the Olympus cards.

Connectivity:

Netbooks generally ought to satisfy one of the basic criteria, easy access to the internet. In that aspect, this netbook offers both wired and wireless connection. For the wired connection there is the RJ-45 port while wireless connection is supported with a protocol WLAN 802.11 b/g. The speed is pretty high. The wireless mode can be switched on by using the particular function key and if the wireless mode is on, the LED glows indicating its status. Surfing the net or downloading the contents will no longer be troublesome or a nuisance with Acer Aspire One 532.

Acer Aspire One 10.1 inch Netbook

Heat and Noise:

The heat and noise generally go unnoticed in the netbooks as long as the usage is normal. But when the netbook is subjected to highly challenging tasks, here for instance, watching the video at 1080p resolution, the warm air could be felt emanating from the netbook. The noise of the fan rotating could also be heard. But there could possibly be no worries for light users.

Battery:

Li-ion rechargeable battery is utilised for this little netbook and the choice could be made from 3 cell or 6 cell. The battery life is the best part of this netbook. As said earlier, the processor has been carefully chosen to increase the battery life. For a 63W 5600mAh 6 cell pack the battery survives for nearly 10 hours (though not exactly) while the 4400 mAh 6 cell pack sports for a great 8 hours. It has to be understood here that the time does not stay constant and either decreases or reaches the maximum level depending on the jobs it performs. The 3 cell battery however lasts only for 4 hours and it is hence not much preferred. For a netbook of cheap price, this battery life is stunning and Acer receives an award of excellence for this.

Performance:

There could be no major grudges against this netbook because it sports amazing performance for its price. While other companies achieve many of these features at a high price end, this netbook has done more than justice. This netbook has optional 3G facilities and this is an interesting piece of news.

Warranty:

The usual 1 year International Traveler Warranty is supported for this Acer Aspire One 532 netbook.

Verdict:

If the price tag of the netbook is the first attractive factor, its design and features are the second factors which makes this product highly wanted. With fast paces of improvement in technology, we are sure to be washed completely into it and it is a promise that the use of the Acer Aspire One 532 will ultimately be pleasurable for what it sports though not completely profitable for what it does not provide. At higher costs, if HP and other such companies could do better, at a lower cost, Acer has done its best.

Asus EEE PC 1008P Netbook Review

Asus is a company which never tires to produce netbooks and every netbook produced betters its predecessor in some way thus showing a steady improvement. This time, the area of betterment is the design. The Asus EEE PC 1008p is a special edition netbook designed in the most modern way possible by Karim Rashid! On reading the name of this popular designer, some might be greatly impressed as he is one of the top class designers with excellent and amazing state of the art design. There have been a number of Asus laptops and netbooks in the market and the eee PC netbooks are increasing too. This netbook has been designed based on the principle of Asus eee netbooks, which is, easy to learn, easy to work and easy to practice.

The Taiwan based company sought after this designer for its model and there came a new special and limited edition in two different colours, the Hot Pink and Coffee brown. When it has a top class design and an elegant look, it obviously means that the cost would also be relatively high. The price tag of this Asus netbook is very high compared to the other netbooks in the market that bear this product’s specifications. .Design is definitely an attracting factor, but will just a superior design suffice? To have a closer study of the product, read further.

Asus EEE PC 1008P Netbook

Design:

Asus eee PC has mainly focussed on the area of design for increasing the buyers and it definitely has succeeded in achieving its aim too. Karim Rashid has designed this model in such a way that it looks like one of the top class and rich pretty netbooks solely for the users who require an elegant machine to do their simple tasks. This Asus EEE PC 1008P netbook has a unique “Digi-wave” design where the waves on the outer covering represent a forward progression movement, a symbol of success. The design looks neat, rich and excellent. Contrary to most of the netbooks released these days, this one has a matte covering with a rubbery and soft exterior. In the inside too, the bottom part is matte type which makes it stand alone in the crowd. More than the Hot Pink, the coffee brown is most preferred since the latter is classier and is pleasant to the eyes. Karim’s signature is present on the left palm rest area of the netbook indicating his top class design. Overall, the design receives an excellent applause since it attracts the users at first sight.

The display is a neat 10.1 inch and the screen is full sized edge-edge type. The resolution of the screen is about 1024 x 600p which is good enough for a normal netbook but below expectations for a netbook of this cost. This highly expensive netbook has a WSVGA widescreen LCD display. This clarity of the screen is pretty good. The netbook is quite flexible and even when bent to some angle the screen can be seen clearly without any trouble. But if the viewing angle is slightly higher, there might be some discomfort indeed.

Keyboard:

The keyboard of the Asus 1008p 10.1-inch netbook is one that is very pretty and clearly satisfies the “EEE” principle as said earlier. Asus has implanted a chiclet type keyboard. The keys are actually very cute to look at and are much comfortable to use too. The isolation type keys are full sized and this means that the machine has utilized the entire space in the right manner and the keys are pretty big and makes the user completely at ease. The numeric keypad is integrated in it and all the function control keys and the like are of good size and the non-typists will have no issues. Overall, the keyboard helps the 1008p to take a step further.

Touchpad and functionality of the Multi Touch:

Below the keyboard on the base is the touch pad. It is separated from the rest of the area by tiny raised dots on its surface. The touch pad has a normal size. There is only single button at the base. This button is used for the left and right mouse buttons. The touch pad generally reduces the work strain of the user and this easiness is further enhanced by a feature called the multi-touch. The multi touch facility enables the users to view the photos or skim through the webpages at a higher rate of speed and also at good comfort. By the pinching action, the photos can be zoomed in or out and with the swiping action, the users can move from one photo to another.

Asus EEE PC 1008P Netbook Pink

LED:

The Asus 1008p netbook Computer has four LEDs present on the left side of the base of the netbook in the small space above the keyboard. The LEDs are used to indicate the status of the battery, hard drive, Wi-Fi and caps lock. The LEDs come in very handy at times. On the right side, there is the power button to switch on the netbook.

Microphone, Camera and Speaker:

A 1.3 MP camera is inbuilt on the top bezel of the screen. The presence of a camera boosts up the spirit of the users because though it is present in most of the netbooks these days, a 1.3 MP camera means that you can do video chatting or conferencing with better clarity and can have a whole lot of fun. Beside the camera is the microphone. This microphone transmits the signals with good audibility and also clearness. The users can have hours long chatting with their friends with the help of a good camera and also a good microphone. This netbook has stereo speakers which are quite louder. Overall, the camera, microphone and the speaker have done a good job indeed.

Available Ports:

The Asus EEE PC 1008P netbook has a good number of ports indeed. One point to note at this juncture is that, this netbook has all its ports safeguarded, that is, all the ports are covered to save it from the dust that might affect the ports. This might be good news for few while irritating for few others, because, the presence of a latch means that every time it has to be flipped open to make use of the port. Beginning from the left hand side of the machine, there is a port that serves as a power connector, a small VGA port, a USB 2.0 port, a multi card reader and fan vent. Asus has been wise enough to add a dongle at the back side of the netbook to connect to the VGA. On the right side, the ports that are present are USB 2.0 port, microphone and headphone jack and an ethernet port. The presence of two USB 2.0 ports is quite disappointing for a netbook that is costlier. To make this netbook thinner and lighter, Asus has made few compromises and one of them is the absence of the optical drive. This means that the users can not watch movies from DVDs or CDs. Also, the presence of a SD card reader means that the data from memory cards like the SD/MMC can be easily transferred to the netbook using this reader.

Connectivity:

Both wired and wireless connection facilities are available in this netbook. Wired connection can be made by connecting to the ethernet port present at the side of the netbook. Also, Asus has extended its connectivity to the wireless mode by providing Wi-Fi 802.11n connection. This connection makes accessing internet all the more easier and fun filled. The presence of bluetooth is an added advantage for those who transfer or access data often.

Heat and Fan Noise:

The quantity of heat released by this netbook is quite high on the base portion of the netbook. The top part is quite warm most of the time but the temperature on the bottom part of the netbook is slightly higher than it should be. Also, the noise produced due to the fan is also audible at times when the work stress is higher and might be quite irritating.

Asus EEE PC 1008P 10.1 inch Netbook Brown

Memory and Processor:

The Asus eee pc 1008p has a 1GB RAM and the sad news is that it can not be upgraded. But to tally this, Asus has given its users 500 GB of web storage memory which helps the user in sharing or accessing all the contents from one system to another. The Intel Atom N450 is the processor employed in the usage of the Asus 1008p netbook. Intel is the word that the netbook and PC producers most often use these days. The graphics set is the Intel GMA3150.

Battery:

Chagring awaits the buyers of the Asus EEE PC 1008p netbook because, as said earlier, to reduce the thickness, the battery has also been made thinner. The disappointing news is that the battery life is quite reduced. The battery used is the Li-polymer battery 2900mAh / 31Wh that is supposed to last for 6 hours. But under normal practice it lasts for a maximum of 4 hours and as the stress increases the longevity decreases. But to compensate this lack, Asus has provided its users with another free battery which can be used to add up the battery life.

Docking and Express Gate:

One of the interesting features included in this netbook is a software or program called the docking. It consists of certain features like EEE sharing, tools, experience and vibe to enhance the functions of the audio, video and internet usage. Also, there is an operating system called the Express Gate which boots up in few seconds. With this OS, the users need not wait for a long time to get connected to the Internet. It is a matter of just few seconds.

Performance:

The performance of the Asus 1008p 10.1″ netbook is average. The audio and video performances are good but it goes some steps backward because of its battery life. Overall, it should have done a better job because of the extra pounds it demands.

Warranty:

1 year is the warranty period included for this netbook and the services are inclusive of the parts and labour.

Verdict:

If cost had not been higher, this netbook could have reached great heights. But with a very high price tag and limited features, this limited special edition netbook has to be considered. There are many other netbooks in the market that provide the users with features many times better than this netbook at a nominal price rate. So if you are some one who does not look at cheap or nominal products and only out for an expensive netbook that has an excellent design, then you could be in the list of the buyers of this netbook.

Samsung N210 Netbook Review

Samsung has come out with yet another beautiful product, the N210 10.1″ netbook. This Korean Company has been surprising its users with few laptops and notebooks every now and then, with the hope of etching a place in the user’s hearts. Science has always made us wonder about its great development. The leap that it takes from one stage to the next is amazing and it engulfs us into it so much that the man kind finds it utterly impossible to live without its aid. The invention of the netbooks also finds their own place in the society and so does this new entry.

The Samsung N210 Mini Notebook has all the basic features built up in a neat and simple way with a look that is not so attractive but definitely not bad. Even if the looks did not appeal much to the users, there is something that makes this product a big highlight. It is the battery life. The battery life is so really high which is very advantageous for the frequent travelers. The word “Samsung” takes the meaning “Tristar or three stars”. Has this product, done justice to its name? Does it receive three stars for its excellence? Read further to find if this could be your choice.

Samsung N210 Netbook White

Design:

The black, white coloured netbook has been designed in such a way that it implies one of sophistication and also neatness though it is not completely attractive or cute. The screen of the N210 is a 10.1-inch WSVGA non-gloss LED backlight display type. The matte or non-gloss type means that the users can heave a sigh of relief. Yes, there will be no trouble in reading the screen however intense the light may be. The matte type of screen gives the liberty to use their netbook in any place they want. Also, the presence of the LED backlight display means that the users can work in a dimly-lit or dark room since the lighting condition can be adjusted. The resolution of the screen is a good 1024 x 600p and it is said that it can be extended up to a 1024 x 768p.

Fortunately this netbook does not weigh more, only an average 1.34 Kg, which would not be difficult for anybody to carry. So it is quite commendable while traveling. The netbook has a length of 265 mm, width of 188.9 mm and a height that ranges from 26 mm to 35.6 mm. The netbook can be of 3 colours, purely black, blend of black and grey and also white. The edges of the netbook have a curved design which looks good and is also easy to be bent for comfortable use. Another interesting thing is that these edges have a transparency which makes it look amazing. The design of this netbook though not stupendous, is obviously perfect.

Keyboard:

The Samsung N210 receives an A+ grade for its keyboard. It is quite pretty, in every way possible, design, looks and ease of use. Samsung had resolved to use the isolation type-keyboard or chiclet keyboard where every key is isolated or separated from each other by a very small distance. It looks great since there are nearly 83 or 84 single keys, each serving its own purpose. All the keys are neatly laid and the users can type faster with this keyboard. The keyboard is full sized with an integrated numeric keypad. All the buttons, including the function and control, arrow, shift and the like are completely within the reach of the user.

The Touch Pad with Multi touch facilities:

The touch pad of the N210 Netbook computer is a smooth and neat one, with two buttons on the base, one for left mouse button and the other for the right mouse button. The touch pad has been placed in the base of the netbook and it functions well. The advantage of this track pad is that it has Multi-touch facility which means that the users can actually view the photos using the multi touch gestures. By the swiping action the users can move from one photo to another and also zoom in or out of the photo.

LED:

The N210 has few LED indicators present on the base of the netbook. There are nearly six LEDs for indicating, caps lock, battery, Wi-Fi, keyboard, Power and Mike usage. These LEDs are neatly placed though there is one small disadvantage, the LEDs might not be visible while typing. But it is not a big minus point and is adjustable.

Camera, Headphone and Microphone:

The N210 comes inbuilt with a 0.3 MP web camera. The presence of a camera means that video chatting or conferencing is truly possible and this netbook actually serves as a bridge between the people who are far away. The headphone and microphone jacks are also present and so it is possible to speak and also listen to what is spoken on the other end.

Speaker:

There are two 1.5W speakers integrated in the device. They are positioned on the bottom of the netbook and they function fairly well.

Available Ports:

Beginning from the left hand side, there is the Power port which is used to supply power to the machine, and then follows the RJ45 ethernet port, the wired mode for accessing the internet, a fan vent for releasing the hot air out, a USB 2.0 port and then two jacks, one for headphone and another one for the microphone. On the front panel beneath the netbook is the SD card reader, the 3-in-1 memory card reader which is used to read the data from memory cards of the type, SD, SDHC and MMC.

On the right side, there are two USB 2.0 ports, a 15-pin VGA port for connecting to other PCs and a lock port to secure the netbook. On the left hand side, since the USB and the power port are placed nearer, it is possible to charge the USB from the device itself.

Samsung N210 10.1 inch Netbook Black

No ODD, No Bluetooth and No HDMI:

Three big ports are absent in this netbook. No optical disk drive, no bluetooth and no HDMI either. The absence of an optical drive means that it is not possible to watch movies from the DVD or CDs. Though USB port is a solution for this, the absence of an optical drive can definitely not be replaced. Also, there is no bluetooth facility in this machine. The HDMI port used for connecting to an external monitor is absent. So movies on the netbook can not be watched on a bigger screen. Disappointing for the movie freaks while just a negative piece of information for others.

Connectivity:

As the name implies, netbooks ought to provide its users, faster and easier connection to the internet. The Samsung opens up a whole new world for its users by giving two choices, the wired or the wireless mode of internet connection. The common wired connection is achieved by connecting to the RJ45 port. It is simple and easy. But wired connection is not possible in all places especially when you are traveling or when you are in coffee shops. For this, wireless connection 802.11 b/g/n can be availed. With the help of this “Wi-Fi” or hotspots, the users can access the internet in just few seconds.

Hyperspace:

In addition to the Windows OS, the N210 includes another operating system called the Hyperspace. This OS is one that is similar to the Linux and comes in handy at times. When you are really busy and want to access the internet at the earliest possible, the instant-on Hyperspace OS comes to the assistance. With this system, the users can boot the required software or application without waiting for the entire operating system to get loaded. With the instant-on, the most frequently used applications are displayed neatly on the left hand side of the netbook clicking which expands in the right side. For example, internet access can be made easily and quickly using the instant-on hyperspace. There are few drawbacks with this OS.

Memory and Processor:

The N210 netbook comes with a 1GB of RAM and 250GB hard drive. The 1 GB of RAM can be extended up to 2 GB. The 250 GB hard drive capacity, though not really high, is certainly enough to accommodate all the data files of the users for their use at any time. The processor used is the Intel atom N450 with a processor speed of 1.66 Ghz. The netbook has a good speed and performs well without any noticeable flaws.

Battery:

Well, here comes the part where Samsung can raise its collar. The specialty of the Samsung N210 is its battery life. The users no longer need to worry about the netbook getting switched off while in the middle of a long travel or in places where there are no sufficient provisions to charge the netbook. These days, traveling has become quite common and a normal activity. This netbook will be a guide as well as a good companion for the travelers. This netbook makes use of the 6 cell chargeable Li-ion battery. When the battery is under use, it could last well for nearly 7 hours and when the stress is decreased, it could last even longer. So, this is great news for those who give prior importance to the battery life.

Performance:

The performance of the N210 is quite disappointing in most of the fields like audio, video, 3D graphics and the like. Disappointing in the sense, this netbook does not give a satisfying output. “Average” is the word used to describe its performance. If you had expected more out of this netbook, then you might probably feel that this netbook is in the downfall. But then, this netbook has given an outstanding performance in the field of battery life. For a normal 6 cell battery, the optimal life time for its survival can be expected to be around 3 or 4 hours. But this netbook has crossed the border, and managed to touch a laudable 7 hours and few minutes, which is stupendous.

Samsung N210 Netbook Side View

Warranty:

The Samsung N210 10.1″ Netbook has a warranty coverage for 1 year time period. So if you find any trouble or problems with the machine within that time period, no issues, Samsung takes responsibility.

Verdict:

The Samsung N210 is one of the many netbooks in the market. It does not stand apart from its crowd in features or performance, but definitely stands alone in the battery performance. With a neat and simple design, this machine is best in battery, better in Keyboard, good in the number of ports and features and eventually average in audio, video and graphic performance. Given this rating, make your choice.
